The winner will qualify directly for the 6th ARWS South American Final, to be hosted by La Gesta in Paraguay in February 2027.

The third regional round of the 2026 ARWS South America circuit will be Charrúa Extremo in Uruguay, taking place in the tiny village of Paso del Cerro, home to just 200 inhabitants, in northern Tacuarembó.

Seventy-six athletes across 25 teams, including 13 in the ARWS premier mixed-quartet category, will gather in the village this Saturday, Sept. 12th, to tackle 160 km of mountain biking and trekking over 24 hours of adventure.

"We felt very comfortable in Tacuarembó last year and decided to return”, said Alen Pujol of Charrúa Extremo. “We’ll be starting from a small village with limited services but where we were warmly welcomed, and which is located very close to hilly terrain."

The winner will qualify directly for the 6th ARWS South American Final, to be hosted by La Gesta in Paraguay in February 2027.

The race promises to be an intense challenge featuring approximately 2,500 meters of elevation gain; "feels-like" temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, and team strategy and navigation will be crucial.

The caliber of the competing teams is high, and an exciting battle for qualification is anticipated.

Standout teams include the 2025 winners and reigning Uruguayan champions Triaventura Durazno; Uruguay Ultra Sports, currently ranked 4th in South America; three-time national champions Sirius; and La Costa Adventure, who finished third in 2023 and second in 2025.

Other notable teams include the experienced Gravedad Cero and Soca, as well as Argentina’s ATRT Salvajes.

"We believe it will be a very tight race and we’ve designed a course that rewards strong navigation, strategy, and physical performance. There will be stages with no technical difficulty where teams can move at a good pace, and others where rushing could be a mistake," Alen stated.
