International Adventure Racing Association was established in 2024, after consultation with all active adventure racing countries, as the first independent and representative governing body for the sport of Adventure Racing.
The Adventure Racing countries considered all options available, including joining existing federations and associations in other related sports, and voted by a big majority to set up the new association to represent the unique sport of adventure racing.
During 2024 the building blocks for the new Association were put in place and interested parties were invited to apply for membership (full, provisional, observer or associate). After completing the application the Adventure Racing World Series was accepted as an Associate Member in November. Read the full details here.
Associate membership is available to organisations, companies or federations related to adventure racing and is a non-voting membership.
Speaking at the time ARWS CEO Heidi Muller said, “As a global adventure racing organization, the ARWS supports the new Association in its aims to represent the adventure racing community, to give all participants and stakeholders a voice, to improve standards and safety, and to engage with sporting and funding bodies at a national and international level.”
The ARWS looks forward a brighter future for adventure racing under the guidance of IARA.
