Qualifiers Cancel, ARWS Still Hopeful for Season Finale

The organising hosts and the ARWS are still hopeful the 2020 Adventure Racing World Championship in Paraguay will go ahead from 10-19 September.

Event Director Gustavo Borgognon said “It is a difficult time and the situation is changing every day. We are monitoring everything closely and we hope by September the COVID-19 situation will allow us to run the championship in Paraguay. We are working hard with all the planning and also making contingencies in case there are still restrictions. We will do everything we can to help and support any teams who still aspire to race the championship, but understand there are still many uncertainties with international travel. We are making regular updates on our social media sites so please check in there.”

Before September though, the COVID-19 restrictions have decimated most of the 2020 ARWS racing calendar. One by one the series organisers were left with no choice but to cancel their races.

The only Qualifying race of 2020 that has been held so far this year was Argentina in February before the COVID-19 restrictions came into place.

While the majority of organisers have simply canceled their 2020 event and moved it to similar dates in 2021, some organisers are attempting to host their events later in the year.  Those hosting after the Paraguay championship will be qualifiers for the 2021 season.

For updates check the ARWS Calendar page.

The ARWS is now working with the international race directors to coordinate an official calendar for the 2021 Qualifier season which will be announced shortly.
