Adventure Racing World Series Africa Final Set For Clocolan 5th November 2022

Adventure Racing World Series Africa Regional Final set for Clocolan, 5th November 2022

The fifth and final leg of the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS) Africa Regional Series will take place this weekend, 4 -6 November 2022.

This event will also be the ARWS Africa Regional 2022 final.

Two distances will be on offer at this event, the 120km distance event and a 60km event. Teams who do not want to race during the night or are starting their AR journey have entered for the shorter distance.

IMLA Guest Farm (https://www.imlafarm.co.za) situated in the scenic Eastern Free State will be the host of this prestigious event.

This guest farm aims to be associated with raising living standards, economic growth, and social cultural enhancement of rural areas. They are driven by the strong demand for family orientated recreational activities and offer local food and authentic farm stay experiences. IMLA Guest Farm focuses on travelers that seek new and different experiences. This is a wonderful family venue, with ample activities for your supporters and family, a great family weekend away! A variety of accommodation on the farm includes a guest house, backpackers, tented-village and a camping area.

The host area, Clocolan, is situated along the R26 about 34km from Ficksburg to the northeast and just under 70km from Maseru to the south (which is over the Lesotho border). The town is located in the Free State Province in South Africa, located along the Maloti route main road, 20km from the Caledon river, alongside the Lesotho border.

Co Race-Director, Thinus Matthysen, is very eager to welcome adventure racers to this beautiful area which, according to him, is a hidden gem. “If you think the Free State is flat, think again. Single tracks, farm roads, climbs, kloofs, technical challenges and views from above will spoil all the racers.  Will the kayak leg be on a river or a reservoir, or maybe both – you have to participate to know the answer”, Thinus says.

Joléne Matthysen, wife and Co-Race Director, says that they have planned to make every racer feel special, whether they are on the podium or crawl across the finish line just before time limits of 12 hours (60km distance) and 24 hours (120km distance). “It will all be about the experience of living the life of adventure!” she says.

Team Merrell Songlines, leaders of the 2022 rankings, and the winners of all four previous events in 2022, will attend. They are the defending champions from last year and the team to beat!

Four legs of the ARWS Africa Regional Series have now taken place and the best adventure racing teams in South Africa will be toeing the start line for the final event in Clocolan, Free State.

Teams who have qualified for a free entry for the ARWS Africa Regional 2022 final are as follows:

  1. Team Merrell Songlines – Winner Swellendam
  2. Team Slowvelders – Second place Wakkerstroom
  3. Team Danger Zone – Second place Merrell Transkei Tuff
  4. Team Terramater – Third place Garden Route

The leading mixed team of four at the conclusion of the final event will be named the African Adventure Racing Champions.
