430km of Expedition Racing in France

The eighth edition of the AR World Series Qualifier, Raid in France has begun it’s 430km journey from the Pyrnees to Saint-Pierre-la-Mer on the shores of the Mediterranean sea

The first leg was a massive 76km trek over the grand Carlit peak at almost 3,000m.  A time check on top recorded the first 5 teams racing within 5 minutes of each other including defending champions team 400 Naturex, and also New Zealand Seagate, Issy Aventure, Cap Opale and Arverne Outdoor.

“In the morning, we had the chance to benefit from an amazing view over the Dent d’Orlu”, stated Arverne Outdoor’s racers.

Dissapointingly for Sébastien Giraud, from team CLJ Aventure, the intense heat over the first trek caused him to withdraw from the race with stomach problems.

Teams will then complete an exciting 12km white water raft stage on the Aude river, begining in the Saint-Georges gorges. Then an undulate 91km mountain bike with difficult navigation will bring them past the Puilaurens castle, and then the Creu and the Llose mountain passes.

Team 400 Team Naturex said “This region is both amazing and savage… We are enjoying it in the best way possible but handling our progression speed since we will be staking everything in the second part of the race”.
