The USA team Adventure Medical Kits (AMK) have sent a strong signal to the world that they are in top form and will be strong contenders at the AR World Championship in Australia in November. Team captain, Kyle Peter said on the finish line “Our ultimate goal is to win a world championship. Our team worked well together this race and it felt good”.
After making their move on Laramie Peak, AMK steadily pulled away from the field and blitzed home to finish in 62 hours – a full 10 hours ahead of race organisers predictions. This team has now won the Cameco Cowboy Tough an amazing 4 times in a row.
Canadian team Tecnu arrived at the finish line 3 hours 35 minutes behind AMK and were notably disappointed. Their goal from the outset was to win and this looked entirely possible as they held a small lead for the first day and a half of racing. Despite this, they will still secure the paid entry to the AR World Championship in Australia; AMK already hold a paid entry from their win in Belize so the prize from Cowboy Tough will roll down to them.
It was a tough race for Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team, ranked 5th in the world, battling not only the heat of Wyoming, but significant bike problems, having major issues with an incredible 4 hubs failing throughout the race. Twice it forced them to walk/ tow a broken bike a significant distance to the next TA. The race organisation were able to assist them find replacements but not without delays. Their final finish time was 72 hours 45 minutes.
The remainder of the field are due to finish by midday Sunday 17th July. Live site can be found at http://live.arworldseries.com/cowboytough16/
